The story behind Mutazione – Xbox Wire

mutation is a popular, award-winning adventure game that features the best systems, stories, and updates for Xbox One. Plus, it will get every update we make to the game in the future. mutation With a couple of different systems running side by side, I wanted to take a minute to shed light on the design choices for all of the fans out there!

History mode

mutation the development began as a story:

“Over 100 years ago, the Meteor Moon Dragon hit a tropical resort. Most of the residents perished while the survivors showed strange mutations. Rescue missions quickly withdrew, and those who remained in the mutating environment formed the small and isolated community of Mutazione.

15-year-old Kai travels to Mutazione to restore her dying grandfather to health. But things are not as simple as they seem … Nonno has other plans for Kai; Secrets and betrayals simmer beneath the surface of the friendly community; and there’s a creepy bird-like figure that keeps popping up in Kai’s dreams.

They can survive an apocalyptic meteor strike, but can they survive their small town drama? “

Play through mutationIn this story, you will learn all about the island’s mysterious past, the ongoing relationships the community has, and how you can heal the rifts that have formed since the meteor crashed all those years ago. mutationThe ensemble’s storytelling underscores that Kai isn’t really the hero of the story. It’s a part – albeit an important part. The foundation of mutation is the community and its relationships. Instead of focusing on how everyone is just interacting with Kai or Kai is the only active agent in the narrative, mutation has plot threads that run between characters all the time. This type of narrative creation helps mutation Feel like a real community of real people with real problems rather than a main character checklist to check off one by one.

The narrative is the main aspect of the game, but by no means all it has to offer.

Garden mode

In the story mode, players learn to collect seeds from plants along the road or moss on a wall and plant those seeds in special gardens that are dotted around the community. These gardens have certain types of soil that you can plant seeds in, grow those seeds, and reap the musical rewards! Each seed corresponds to a musical instrument. So as you plant and grow, you are composing beautiful melodies of ambient songs that interweave and interweave.

For players who just want to focus on gardening, there is Garden Mode!

Garden mode was developed to give players the ability to experiment, customize, and express themselves in a standalone garden that is not tied to the narrative by mutation. It also adds new seeds that are not available while playing the game story, as well as hundreds of new musical instruments to create unique, beautiful soundscapes. It was also important to make the garden mode easily accessible. In the Cloud Garden, players can collect seeds, create new ambient music, play with time controls, and create beautiful ambient views immediately after loading the game.

Seven gardens

But hey, why not both?

For players who love the freedom of Garden Mode but want to play through everything in Story Mode, we wanted to give them the opportunity to get the best of both worlds. As soon as a garden is unlocked by a player in story mode, its counterpart in garden mode is unlocked. And because the different gardens in Mutazione have different soil preferences and layouts, the players can really express themselves with their musical compositions. The roof garden, beach garden, and temple garden will all produce very different songs, of course.

Players are free (and encouraged) to experiment with different seeds in different landscapes so that the seed box is split across all eight gardens in garden mode. If players at East Garden want to grow seeds for Treetop Garden, that’s perfectly fine!

Seed sharing

The last big feature was something social. mutation is a story about community, so we had to develop game mechanics that encourage community action. This became seed sharing.

Since you are collecting seeds that you may no longer need, there is an option to send those seeds to your friends by sending them a six letter code! To generate the code, go to Seed Sharing and select: Send Seeds. Then choose a type of seed and amount to send and the game will generate a screenshot for you to share. If you would like to receive seeds, select: Receive seeds. Then enter the code and you will receive a postcard with the seeds that you add to your garden! This seed sharing is platform-independent. So feel free to share it with your friends no matter what platform they are playing on mutation on.
