Safety is one of the flags of the App Store. But every once in a while a malicious app circumvents Apple’s security measures. Recently, this was done by an iOS app that refuses to work before users rate it above 3 stars in the App Store. A request totally contrary to Apple’s conditions.
App developer and fraudulent app hunter in the App Store Kosta Eleftheriou, has been commissioned to exhibit in Twitter, UPNP Xtreme app that refuses to work before giving it at least a 3-star review on the App Store. UPNP Xtreme offered streaming video to televisions.
App Store fails on security
Eleftheriou has had feuds with Apple in the past, after its own Apple Watch keyboard app, FlickType, was overtaken by expensive apps with fake reviews. For this reason, it appears that the behavior of The UPNP Xtreme app directly contradicts one of the best practices listed by Apple on its development site
Regarding his discovery, Eleftheriou confirmed that Apple has removed more than 100 apps as a result of its reports. But, he doesn’t hide his fear that the billionaire company will fail to spot these scams during its review process on the App Store.
