It seems like only yesterday when Valve announced a trilogy of expansions for its hugely popular 2004 PC game Half-life 2. But it actually happened that way 15 years since Episode 3 got introduced. And while Valve has since released a new one Half a life Game, it wasn’t what the developer announced in 2006.
Thanks to the internet archive, You can find the original Gamespot article Reporting on Valve’s plans for the Half-life 2 Consequences. (There is also the similarly old one Gamasutra Items.) The article published on May 24, 2006 states that Valve has finished work on Episode 1 and expected Half-life 2: episode 2 to be published by the end of 2006. (That release window was missed and released in October 2007.) It was also annoyed that the trilogy would end with Episode 3 sometime before December 2007.
15 years later and the trilogy is still ongoing. And it never will. Or at least it won’t be packed like Valve originally planned.
Valve has long since moved away from the episodic format. For most of the past 15 years, the company seemed to have moved on too Half a life. But last year we finally got a new game. The virtual reality title Half-life: alyx was a fantastic return on investment for the franchise, even if a lot of people couldn’t play it because it needed a beefy PC and VR gear.

No massive spoilers, however Alyx in its own way closes part of the episodic narrative that remained unfinished afterwards Half-life 2: episode 2ends. And it even seems to be teasing a possible next Half-Life game. So who knows, maybe we’ll finally get one in a couple of years Half-life 3 or Episode 3 or which version of three Valve chooses. Whatever happensIt was a long time before I got around to it.
