In this article, we’ll explore the ways your trusty Mastiff will help you as you shoot, stab, and kill your way through the Underhive.
The Underhive can be an oppressive environment for even the toughest of souls. There you can’t trust your own mother. But the bond between dog and owner is another story. Your four-legged friend will follow you into the depths of hell and back again, and enjoy every moment. Summoning your mastiff is as easy as hugging your favorite toy rat (you heard us). Aim the rat at the enemy you want to attack and he’ll feel 220 pounds of increased flesh and steel swoop down on him in seconds.
While an enemy is maimed by your mastiff, they will be far too busy trying not to die to attack you, allowing you to deliver death in other directions as you see fit. Plus, as long as your dog is with you, you’ll gain some of their senses, creating red highlights around enemies within a certain radius of your buddy. Summoning your mastiff works great both as a panic button and for strategically neutralizing and attacking selected enemies. As strong as your Mastiff is, it will need to rest after attacking for a while, but can be summoned when the ability is ready again. All of this can be improved with increases.
Just like your own body, your mastiff can be upgraded at the Ripper Doc in Martyr’s End, the central area of the game. A good boy deserves skull armor. With three major upgrade categories: Head, Body, and Paws, you’ll have a range of tech to help keep your dog alive and killing. Crank up the speed with Bionic Paws, then upgrade to a Bionic Nose for a bit of cyber sniffing, increasing the detection radius of enemies. Improve your Mastiffs’ dodge, health, armor penetration, and more, creating a true machine of destruction (while still being your best friend, of course). With each major upgrade, your dog will visibly go from flesh to metal. What he can lose in kindness, he will gain in the capacity to kill.
We hope you enjoyed this preview of the mastiff in Necromunda: Hired Gun. Together, sniff your target, eliminate them and collect the bounty. The Underworld may be dangerous, but blood is good for business.
