Nintendo only announced plans to convert one of its old production facilities in Japan into the “Nintendo Gallery” in order to “showcase the many products that Nintendo has brought onto the market in the course of its history”.
The Uji Ogura plant in Uji (just outside of Kyoto) was built back in 1969 and was used for everything from making Hanafuda playing cards to customer service repairs. It closed in 2016 and Nintendo has been trying to decide what to do with it ever since.
However, recent plans by the City of Uji to rehabilitate the surrounding area have inspired Nintendo to turn it into a tourist attraction that will host permanent collections of the company’s “historical products” as well as other experiences and exhibits.
The Nintendo Gallery is expected to be completed sometime before March 2024.
