According to the narrative director of Far Cry 6, Navid Khavari, the game will have moments in which we can see Dani Rojas in the third person (via: GameSpot). It will not be a free camera as it exists in other games, but we will be able to see ourselves as players by using certain weapons, cinematics and at specific moments of the gameplay.
It seems that for now we will have to wait for the game to confirm what specific moments those are but at least we have already seen a moment in which Dani uses the Supremo Backpack, a backpack full of missiles that we can program to launch certain enemies. In the trailer we could already see that the camera was zooming out so that we could see the effect of the missiles.
Different perspective
This has been one of the main requests of the saga for a while. In other Ubisoft games we have always been able to see our character, but Far Cry is played in the first person, something that did not bother at the beginning. However, Ubisoft introduced skins and cinematics over time and it became strange not to be able to our character.
Far Cry 5 received a lot of criticism for this at the time, the “commissioner” was a customizable avatar with many skins and hairstyle changes. However, you couldn’t see those changes, not even in cinematics, so it was a wasted effort. With Far Cry 6 they will avoid making the same mistake.
“The cinematics, [en tercera persona] it’s something the team tried from the start, and it felt surprisingly fluid. Instantly it felt like there was more connection to Dani’s journey around the world, more connection to this epic story in Yara. Players will also be able to see their character customizations in these important passages of history. At Guerrilla Camps, this is also an opportunity for players to see their completely personalized character, from their backpack to their clothing. “
So finally Ubisoft will listen to fans of the saga. The third-person camera debate has been hanging around Far Cry and other sagas for a while and it seems that at least Ubi intends to resolve it by leaning toward some kind of middle ground.
Far Cry 6 will debut on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, PC, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna on October 7.
