While Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S7 and Tab S7 + are the company’s most competitive tablets to date, they also raise questions about what the company could be up to for its next-gen tablets.
Right now there is very little information on the ground, ie there still aren’t too many “leaks” or rumors around what we suppose to be called the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 and Tab S8 +.
That said, there are still plenty of benchmarks based on market conditions and competitor movements that can help get a feel for what the next Galaxy Tabs might look like.
When will the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 / S8 + be released?
Using former members of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S lineup as a guide is a tough tightrope to walk, partly because of the recent return to a multi-device strategy and partly because of how Samsung viewed the lineup. Galaxy Tab. years.
Previous entries in the Tab S line have already been released in March and September, and the 2020 Tab S7 and Tab S7 + debuted in August; They arrived as part of one of the company’s branded “Unpacked” events alongside other productivity-focused devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

It seems like a logical strategy to pursue, in part because it focuses solely on Samsung, allowing the company to reach many market segments in one go (looking at everything that has been announced this year) and also in a relatively quiet period. year, long after the hype for the company’s own Galaxy S smartphones came out and long before Google’s next Pixel phones or Apple’s next iPhones went live.
In fact, the last Unpacked event, which took place on January 14, was for the Galaxy S21 line (plus Galaxy Buds Pro and SmartTag), not the new tablets.
There is some good news though, as in a report on Samsung’s foldable phone hinge supplier – the Z Flip 2 and Z Fold 3 are yet to come – GSMArena notes that S-Connect will also start manufacturing components for the flip phone. Soon S8 and S8 +.
It’s unclear what parts these are, but it at least indicates that Samsung will be launching the tablet in the coming months.
How much will the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 / S8 + cost?
In a fairly large leak in late May, hosted in a since-deleted tweet (at source’s request) by the FrontTron insider, it looks like we can expect three devices this year, instead of the 2020 Tab S pair.
While their names are not official yet (the leak uses the Basquiat codenames 1, 2, and 3), it looks like Samsung has a Tab S8, Tab S8 +, and Tab S8 Ultra that it will release to the market in the next days. months, and the leak includes prices in Korea, broken down into three SKUs for each model: WiFi only, LTE, and 5G (with approximate prices converted directly to the region in parentheses next to each value).
The base Tab S8 with WiFi connection is priced at KRW 829,000 ($ 610), while the LTE version starts at ($ 685) and the 5G variant starts at ($ 780).
Then there’s the larger Tab S8 +, which starts at $ 1,149, the LTE version is priced at $ 1,249,000 and the addition of 5G brings the starting price to $ 1,349,000.
Last but not least is the hefty Tab S8 Ultra, which costs 1,469,000 ($ 1,085), 1,569,000 ($ 1,160), and 1,669,000 ($ 1,230) for Wi-Fi flavors., LTE and 5G, respectively.
Like its smartphones, the “S” line of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab family has always been the flagship, the most sophisticated, the most feature-rich of its slate offer, and therefore the one with the most demanding price.
Moreover, like its smartphones (and the market in general), the price of Tab S tablets has also increased every year, with notable spikes driven by leaps in network technology, such as 5G.
In the UK the Galaxy Tab S3 2017 and Tab S4 2018 cost 600 pounds, the Tab S6 increased the price to 619 pounds which is the starting point for the current Tab S7 only Wi-Fi, while the adding 4G costs 100 pounds more. and adding 5G costs 200 pounds more (using Tab S7 + as a guide).
Based on the prices disclosed by the Koreans, Samsung does not give such a large premium to cellphone models, with smaller price increases between variants.
What features could the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 / S8 + offer?
Samsung isn’t about to promote the Tab S7 as a laptop replacement to the extent that Apple does with its iPads or Microsoft with its Surface 2-in-1, but they are still among the hottest tablets. performance, especially in the Android arena, it lacks decent competition.
While some details remain a mystery (like the exact silicon that will power these 2021 tablets [se supone que será el Snapdragon 888 de Qualcomm]), the leaked spec chart confirms that features like four speakers, S Pen compatibility, and 45W fast charging will be back across the range.
The Tab S8 would feature an 11-inch LTPS 120Hz TFT display, while the Tab S8 + and Ultra will benefit from 120Hz AMOLED panels; the Plus will measure 12.4 inches and the Ultra large 14.6 inches.
A dedicated keyboard accessory is also mentioned for each model (priced at 198,000 [145 $], ₩ 220,000 [160 $] and ₩ 320,000 [235 $], respectively). The Ultra’s noticeable price increase for the keyboard dock has to do with an apparent versatility that the other two Tab S8s lack.
Samsung’s One UI user experience already handles features like Android’s multi-window interaction pretty well, but better app compatibility is really the key to taking full advantage of the bespoke hardware and software that the lineup. Tab S8 will deliver.
Therefore, it is Samsung’s responsibility to work with third parties to improve app support for its features and devices, such as its low latency S stylus, when the Tab S8 is released.
All three tabs feature a 13 MP + 5 MP dual rear camera setup, while the Tab S8 Ultra’s 8 MP front snapper comes with a 5 MP secondary. ultra-wide, shown in the use cases of aptitude home conferencing and video.
The RAM and storage of the small and medium slates are comparable, while the Ultra also gets the option of a 12GB RAM / 512GB SKU that the Base or Plus models do not have.
More storage was one of the features we expected to see in this year’s Galaxy Tab S lineup, so we’ve had our fingers crossed to make those specs stick.
Ahead of the Tab S8 series, we expect a more affordable version of Samsung’s flagship tablets to be released for 2020. Here’s everything you need to know about the Galaxy Tab S7 FE.
