The iPad was originally born as a device located between our iPhone and our Mac. A device designed to display multimedia content, check e-mail, surf the Internet or even play comfortably on a big screen from our sofa. However, little by little it has evolved and many are asking for more powerful software. They ask for macOS on the iPad.
What is certain is that the iPad was introduced in 2010 and it had a suitable version of iOS as software, which in turn is a suitable version of macOS. However, that may not be the case according to a leaked email from Steve Jobs.
According to this document, Apple would have considered launching a “Mac tablet” prior to the introduction of the iPad in 2010. Jobs made a brief mention in an email of a tablet in a conversation within the Mac category.
Prior to the iPad’s launch, we heard rumors about this possibility, but the company ultimately took a different, and possibly smarter, direction. the The iPad was a success as it was designed, and a device with Intel and macOS chips as a system probably wouldn’t have succeeded.
MacOS didn’t make sense on the iPad back then, but now?
Back in those days, it was virtually impossible to make a tablet with the slim design, so contained weight, and great battery life that the original iPad had with Intel processors and with macOS as a system. However, everything is changing and now the IPad Pro and MacBook share processor and specs internal.
So now more than ever it is possible to run macOS on the iPad, as long as Apple wants to clear. It’s true that iPadOS is better suited for a touch environment than macOS, but there are some professional macOS apps that could help turn iPad into a true all-in-one device.
WWDC 21 is fast approaching and we have many reasons to see iPadOS 15, important news is expected, although it is nearly impossible for us to see macOS on an iPad.
