Game news Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart: Several developers mention the lack of crunch
Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart is out on Friday, but the reviews were released this afternoon and the ratings are generally very good. Technical slap, the title required many months of production and of course the question of how to crack it arose.
If you believe the statements of some developers of Insomniac Games on Twitter, the crunch would not have been the norm at all during the production of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. The developers involved speak for themselves, but reading positive testimonials when the subject of crunch is raised is rare. So let’s start with Lindsay Thompson, hostess of the title. On his account Twitter, she explains:
I haven’t cracked the whole production once. A couple of late nights here and there to finish something, but ALL WITHOUT CRUNCH. It is possible. The well-being of the team gives free rein to creativity.
A testimony that that of. reflects Grant Parker, game designer at Insomniac Games and who also worked on Lombax’s new adventures.
He indicates
appreciate all the positive attitudes people showed when they got off the tests.
Ratchet has an average score of 89 (on Open Critic, editor’s note) and I can’t speak for everyone on the team, but in my case I haven’t cracked a single time. 40 hours a week all the time. It is possible to work on a great game without suffering.
We hope that these testimonials are representative of the entire Insomniac Games team and that this new work will be released with good omens. However, it is important to note that they are two of very many members of the team Development, and that not everything is going so well for everyone.
