As the developers test the betas of all the new operating systems presented at WWDC21, small details come out that may not be mentioned in the keynote but remain interesting.
This is what happened with a new feature of tvOS 15: this version of the system will allow us to sign in to Apple TV apps via iPhone with Face ID o Touch ID. This way, we won’t have to write passwords on the TV interface even with the help of the iPhone Remote app.
IPhone as a service authenticator
Developers who wish to use this feature will need to implement it in their tvOS applications, using a new tool that will invoke a notification on the user’s iPhone with a connection request. Of course, credentials can be saved to iCloud Keychain.
This should make it much easier to connect to widely used tvOS apps like Netflix, HBO, YouTube, or Prime Video. Currently, some of these services use special web pages to identify us from the phone, but Face ID and Touch ID they would make things even simpler.
