Game news E3 2021: Resident Evil, Monster Hunter … What to Expect from the Capcom Conference?
,
Last week, Capcom announced at the last minute that it would finally hold a conference at E3. On the program, the publisher wants to present new information about its upcoming titles, but also about its two big hits from the previous year. We take stock of what awaits us from the showcase.
On June 9th, a few days before the start of E3, Capcom got everyone back and announced a showcase dedicated to four titles for June 4th at 11:30 p.m.: The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, Monster Hunter Rise, and Resident Evil Village. However, we are not immune to a surprise announcement, especially if we remember the leaks that surfaced on the net following the cyberattack on the publisher last November.
What’s new for Resident Evil Village and Monster Hunter Rise?
While the first half of 2021 was rather calm in terms of releases, Capcom was able to stand out with two big hits in quick succession: Monster Hunter Rise in March and Resident Evil Village in May. With 6 million copies sold for the first and 3 million for the second, 2021 is already developing into a record financial year for the publisher. Monster Hunter Rise will have more content throughout the year, but will also benefit from a release on PC in early 2022. This showcase will therefore certainly be an opportunity to explain its specifics.
When it comes to Resident Evil Village, it’s hard to imagine what Capcom can proclaim all over again. Other than the postponement of Resident Evil Re: Verse multiplayer this summer, no additional content has been announced yet. Given the unexpected buzz around Lady Dimitrescu, Capcom may have decided at the last moment to come up with a little bonus to surf on her popularity, who knows? In the meantime, we have no idea what the publisher would like to present during the showcase around Village.
Quid de The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin?
This show is also an opportunity to look back on the publisher’s next two major releases: Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, slated for July 9th and The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles on July 27th. A spin-off from the main series, Wings of Ruin is a turn-based RPG that is heavily inspired by PokΓ©mon and allows you to recruit the iconic creatures of the saga. It follows directly from the original game as it embodies the grandson of Red, the protagonist of the first episode. The latter is intended to appeal to a younger audience and is also planned on Switch and PC via Steam.
As for The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, the English localization fulfills a longstanding wish of Phoenix Wright fans. Planned as a compilation of The Great Ace Attorney and The Great Ace Attorney 2 for PC, PS4, and Switch, these two episodes, originally released on 3DS, never left Japan. These two spin-offs had something to please a Western audience, however, as they take place in Japan in the late 19th century, which is the full Meiji period. We follow the adventures of Ryunosuke Naruhodo, the ancestor of the famous Phoenix Wright, also a lawyer. For the best experience, this collection also features eight mini-episodes and three alternate costumes that were originally sold as DLC in Japan. We also hope that this showcase will provide an opportunity to announce a French localization of the title, which is currently only planned in English.
What to expect from the leaks
Remember, Capcom is targeted for a cyber attack in late 2020 and is receiving a ransom note of $ 11 million in bitcoin. Given the publisher’s reluctance, the hackers began divulging certain sensitive information contained in the 1TB of data being recovered from Capcom’s internal networks. Among these leaks we find elements that have since proven to be true: the release of Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter Stories 2 on PC, the Oculus VR version of Resident Evil 4 VR or the English localization of The Great Ace Attorney. Obviously, there is unlikely to be an announcement about these leaks, as Capcom doesn’t seem to suggest that only the four listed titles will be talked about during the showcase.
