Some rumors claimed we would see material at the inaugural WWDC21 keynote, others claimed it would be a pure software conference. At the end of the day, while there were lots and lots of new features, the truth is, none were hardware. That leaves us with a calendar with some certainties and a lot of unknowns for the rest of the year.
Lots of material but no precise date
The list of devices we expect for this year is quite extensive. On the one hand, there is the new iPhone 13, which we think we know practically everything about, but which will surely surprise us when they arrive in September or October. These iPhone would be an evolution of the current iPhone 12 with camera improvements, more battery, new processor and small improvements, for example, in 5G connectivity. Along with the iPhone, we are also awaiting the arrival of the Apple Watch Series 7, which we know little about beyond a version for athletes and possible new biometric sensors.
It is, without a doubt, the hardware launch that can most easily be scheduled, but there are others that are much less clear. As part of the transition to Apple’s silicon processors, we continue to look forward to the redesign of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. These are rumored to arrive by 2021, although we don’t know when. One option is that we see the first models arriving this summer, although the latest information from the assembly line is predicting delays.
Nuevos iPhone, Apple Watch, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Beats, AirPods …
For this reason, Mark Gurman himself has placed the hardware launches of the Mac line in October, which, looking at the timeline followed last year, makes a lot of sense. A launch after the arrival of the new iPhones, but in time for the Christmas campaign, is generally a frequent strategy at Apple.
But we’re not just waiting for new MacBook Pros. possible renewal of MacBook Air. In this renovation, the computer would receive the same mini-LED display that would come on the Pro models and would be redesigned to abandon the wedge shape in favor of a more square and regular design.
Finally, we are also waiting for new headphones. In the Beats lineup, we’ve seen several leaks of new Beats that are very similar in design to the AirPods Pro. Due to the number of leaks, it’s possible to think that these new headphones will arrive, likely via a press release, this summer, although there is also room for the possibility. that Apple is reserving its launch with the iPhone and Apple Watch that we’ll see arrive in the fall. The latest rumors put the second-gen AirPods Pro in the first half of 2022, while their younger siblings, The 3rd generation AirPodsthey could see the light this summer u otoño.
It is clear that Apple has a good number of products ready to launch this year. Some of us know them in detail, while others will be a total surprise. What we can say is that all the software we have seen in this WWDC will come with the corresponding hardware, the only question is when.
