Microsoft officially revealed lots of info about Halo infinite at his E3 presentation yesterday. As previously announced, the multiplayer mode will be completely free upon release and will also include a kickass grappling hook. Today in a 12-minute mini document, 343 Industries pulled the curtain back a little and showed how Halo infinite‘s multiplayer will differ from previous series entries – and how it will stay the same.
What competition modes will be available?
Arena will be returning, but 343 hasn’t revealed any details about what specific modes are on the playlist. It seems like a no-brainer that Slayer, the core gloriole gametype, will celebrate a comeback, in both free-for-all and team-based modes. The multiplayer reveal trailer featured a round of Capture the Flag, so you can bet that’s in the game. Via Twitter, 343 boss Bonnie Ross Approved that Big Team Battle will return and that twelve teams will be played in the games. In addition, 343 is silent about the specific offers and the availability of fan favorites such as Oddball, King of the Hill or Rocket Race (please give us Rocket Race).
Is the firefight back?
343 has not officially confirmed whether Firefight – the popular gloriole Mode where you face increasingly challenging waves of enemies will return. But 343 employees mentioned the term on today’s stream. In fact, the stream began with 343’s Andrew Witts describing “the feeling of being in Firefight”.Halo 5 just added it after the start.)

What about forging?
“What I’m really excited about is taking the game out of our hands and putting it in the hands of the community,” said 343’s Joseph Staten in today’s video. “Whether it’s seeing what people are doing in Forge or the content they can do in the theater.”
I take that as a “yes”.
Which cards will be available?
Yesterday’s reveal trailer featured a map that looked almost identical to Valhalla, the asymmetrical Canyon map that debuted in Halo 3 (and played a huge role in web series Red against blue before it stopped being funny). In addition, 343 says More information about cards is displayed in a Halo waypoint Blog planned for Wednesday.
How will the equipment work?
In yesterday’s reveal, you may have seen a demo player use a grappling hook to swing across the map or grab an explosive barrel and toss it into a warthog. Officially known as a grappleshot, it’s just one of many new pieces of equipment in gloriole, including the Repulsor (which reflects projectiles) and the Drop Wall (which drops a wall in front of you).
Equipment works similarly to in Halo 3: They put it on the map like a weapon. If you die, you drop it, after which an opponent can pick it up. The same applies to articles with restricted use.
There are bots, right?
Yes, for the first time in series history Halo infinite will contain bots. (Don’t split your hair. Gunfight doesn’t count. You know I’m talking about Spartans here.) You can find these bots in a separate mode called “Academy”, where you can customize scenarios and test weapons at the shooting range and take part in other tutorials. You and all of your friends may know the stark difference between a banshee and a wraith, but what about the people who have never played before? gloriole In front? There are six games to catch up on in history. And with InfiniteSince the multiplayer mode is free to play, it’s easy to see how a separate mode like this could be helpful in bringing newbies up to speed.
Is the announcer back?
Obviously. It is not gloriole Play without a baritone announcer who will double-kill the earth every time you get a double kill. But it’s not the only voice you’ll hear. Players have their own personal AI that provides updates on each game. For example, if you pick up the flag in a CTF game it will ask you to suck your ass (albeit probably in nicer terms). They are displayed as digital units projected from chips similar to those on which Cortana lives – or, well, lived – and you can customize their look and voice.
What else can I adjust?
Ryan Paradis of 343 said there were “millions of customization combinations” for Spartans, including weapons, vehicles and armor. For the first time in series history Infinite will offer prosthetics as a customization option.
Are there loot boxes?
No
How about a Battle Pass?
Yup. And you can pick up old season Battle Passes; they won’t expire. 343 notes that the customization is also purely cosmetic.
Okay, enough of that. I want to play. Is there a beta?
Technically no, at least not yet. Later this summer, 343 “Tech Previews” will start, but there is still no word on what exactly that entails. You can enter your information on Halo waypoint for an access option.
Still not a word on a release date, right?
Beyond the eternally vague “Vacation 2021”, no. When Infinite eventually comes out, it will land on Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming and be part of the Xbox Game Pass library.
