The launch of Battlefield 2042 is getting closer every day, but there are still some details about which no official statements have yet been made. One of these topics is »SBMM«. That stands for “Skill-based Matchmaking«And should ensure that the multiplayer matches are balanced.
In the case of the competition in the form of Call of Duty: Warzone, the process repeatedly causes discussions, as its criteria are opaque and it is easy to outsmart. This is exactly what SBMM was supposed to prevent: There are unfair matches.

Does Battlefield 2042 also use SBMM?
It is not yet known whether Battlefield 2042 will also rely on the controversial technology. The developer DICE has not yet given any precise insights into their server infrastructure in this regard. The well-known leaker Tom Henderson already wants to know more and initially has bad news for Battlefield fans.

Because according to Henderson BF 2042 should also rely on skill-based matchmaking in the background. Nevertheless, one should not fear that it will work just as sub-optimally as in CoD Warzone, since an important detail distinguishes the two systems from one another:
In Battlefield 2042, the SBMM should only take effect once the lobby is already full. The system will then evaluate the players and distribute them to the individual teams. That is a big difference to Warzonewhere players are matched by the server based on their opaque rating.

If the system actually works this way in Battlefield 2042, you could avoid some of the competitor’s problems right from the start. For example, it would be no problem for professional players to play a round with their less experienced friends.
In addition, some Warzone players simply lever out the system, which destroys the entire balance of a game from the outset. So there are enough good reasons for DICE to take a different approach to their game.
