Add and go Tencent when it comes to expanding its borders and markets. The company has announced that it has acquired a Yager’s majority stake, the German studio responsible for, among other works, Spec Ops: The Line.
It is not the first time that Tencent has invested its capital in the developer, since in February it acquired another participation, although this was quite a bit smaller. The objective of that movement would serve to invest the money received in the work of The Cycle, the studio’s next free to play title.
Timo Ullman, director of Yager, has shared a statement to Gameswirtschaft, where he clarifies that the idea about being supported by an investor has been in the making since 2017. Tencent has been the necessary foothold to take the step.
“This decision was not made spontaneously, it has grown over time. We decided to start with a minority stake first to see how it worked. When it became clear that it made sense to both parties, we prepared the next step. And then of course, The whole process takes time, because there are many formalities. “
The truth is that this kind of news is no longer surprising. Last month Tencent announced a Xbox Game Studios collaboration via TiMi Studios facing the Asian market. On the other hand, they also have a part of Dontnod and the wholly owned by Leyou for a total of 1.3 billion dollars.
