Massive has discussed an upgrade to its Snowdrop engine to make Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora not only shine on the new system, but also to ensure it takes advantage of the new generation of hardware.
Ubisoft Massive says it has upgraded and massively improved its Snowdrop engine and must do so to create upcoming games Avatar: Pandora’s Frontier Suitable for the latest generation of game consoles.
At the Snowdrop technology exhibition, the Massive team, known as The Divison, talked about how the engine upgrade and its advanced microdata system allowed it to process thousands of assets in one frame. This allows for a more detailed environment, full of vegetation, because the team placed more objects in the game than in previous games.
The engine also generates interactive shaders that are eye-catching as the player changes in the game, even including wind simulation and plant interaction.
Snowdrop also uses real-time ray tracing to improve the lighting in the game, from the bioluminescence of creatures to light and shadow, and even different lighting around clouds.
It also makes the time period and weather more realistic. In the game, the NPC reacts to the weather and the time of day. This means that non-playable characters will be able to react to the state of the world, even when it comes to player progress.

During the Ubisoft Forward earlier this month, the company showed us the first trailer of the game, which was impressive.
The first-person action-adventure game developed since 2017 will focus on the battle between Na’vi and humans and the industrialization of Pandora.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be released in 2022 and will be available on Luna, PC, PS5, Stadia and Xbox Series X/S.
