In the report they have shared, several initiatives that Nintendo has established for support employees and work for enhance diversity, equity and inclusion.

These are the most prominent details that have been shared:

  • Various Employee Resource Groups (o ERG) and Nintendo of America.

  • Introduction of a partnership system– This is a new initiative that was introduced in March this year to ensure that employees are treated fairly regardless of their gender or sexuality. Here is the full statement from Nintendo about the program:

At Nintendo Co. (Japan), we want to create an ework environment that supports and enhances to each and every one of our unique employees.

In March 2021 we introduced the association system as an initiative based on this philosophy. This system ensures that employees in a common-law partnership with a same-sex partner have the same benefits as employees in a marriage of the opposite sex. We have also established that a domestic partnership between a same-sex couple will be observed in the same way as a legal marriage.

In our Code of Conduct for employees in Japan, we had already stated that “We do not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, ideology, religion, creed, origin, social status, class, occupation, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity«, Prohibiting all forms of discrimination. In addition, with the introduction of the Association System, we take the opportunity to review our internal regulations regarding bullying to clearly prohibit discriminatory comments based on the sexual orientation or gender identity, as well as the disclosure of the sexual orientation deprived of someone against their will.

Along with the introduction of the Association System in Japan, we notified our employees of the issue of the gender diversity with a message from our President on the company’s intranet as a means of raising awareness. In this message, the President called for a renewed understanding that even words and actions that are not intended to harm can cause significant emotional pain, asking understanding and support to create an environment in which everyone can work comfortably.

By improving company systems and training, we will continue to work to create an environment in which each of our many and diverse employees can fully develop your talents.

It should be noted that these details have been shared as part of the annual account approval process, the election of the members of the board of directors and the holding of the General Shareholders’ Meeting.
