We return, one more Monday, to review what the weekly debate that we proposed to you last week in our Discord server. On this occasion, the question we asked you was this:
Videogame remasters: for or against? And because?
It is a subject in which we have seen that the majority have everything quite clear. For example, Davyskun comment the following:
“If the video game was a masterpiece, in its generation, in favor. I would give it another shot. That yes, that the work is noticed ”.
Our reader Sublimed Sky it goes a bit along the same lines when it comments this:
“I dont think is bad. It is used to learn about games that you did not play at the time or to replay those of which you keep good memories, updated to today’s systems. So that the new generations can know some old game ”.
Alejandro Espinosa is also in favor:
“In favor. There are people who for whatever reason did not play jewels because they did not have the console or for another reason and when doing a remaster / remake it gives them the opportunity to play them. I think it is a good way to update old classics so that the new generations also know them, as long as they are remasters worked and cared for. I think they don’t hurt anyone and if you are interested in playing it, fine, and if not, then to something else ”.
The Ultimate_xd, on the other hand, prefers to see both points of view:
“A point in favor of the remasters would be that it is an excellent opportunity to polish the games that were already successful in their time, adding new mechanics, new graphics and even a story somewhat different from the original game, as in the case of Pokemon Red. Fire adding the Sete Islands.
But a point against it would be the nostalgia factor of the fans of the game to remastize, they may be blinded by nostalgia and say that the remaster totally ruined the original game or that it contains “many microtransactions” (be careful, not that it is in favor of excessive microtransactions). I am in favor of remasters because it is an excellent opportunity to play a good game again at a better graphic and playability level ”.
This is what he tells us Mj:
“It is difficult, on the one hand the remaster gives the opportunity to new generations to access certain games that otherwise (at least legally) may be difficult. At the same time, there is the problem that many remasters end up being a mediocre product that does not live up to the original and can scare the developer from continuing with said saga or IP. Personally, I agree as long as the remaster is made with love or at least respecting the original. “
Finally, to rescue a different point of view, BikerboyGSXR comment the following:
“I think that if something is good it is better not to touch it. It was a success in its day and not by republishing it with more beautiful graphics (in the end it is what you do) is it going to be another success. For example, the original Monkey Island has that I don’t know what makes you fall in love. The remaster is not the same. And if you change the game system or the story is no longer the same game … it is already another game no matter how much it is called the same ”.
In general, what we have seen is that practically all these opinions have something in common: in favor of remasters as long as there is a good work behind.
And here for today, Thanks to everyone for participating. We will leave you a new debate on Discord for this week, although of course you can follow the conversation in the comments of this article if you wish.
