After what happened in the fourth episode, where the window to the “truth” behind the TVA was completely open, we have a new selection of Easter eggs and winks that are part of the long-awaited fifth episode of ‘Loki’.
“Journey Into Mistery ‘brings together the entire gang of“ Lokis ”who, for us, were eliminated and“ erased ”by the guardians of the timeline. Considering that “the Void”, where Loki, Sylvie and Mobius fell after being burned, is a realm that houses the remains of the erased timelines, it is absolutely full of memories of the MCU, and we are here to point them out.
Journey to Mystery
The very name of the episode represents a wink on its own. “Journey Into Mystery” is the name of the comic that began in the 1950s, which later became one of the company’s leading publications. It was thanks to this “journey” that Thor managed to make his debut in 1962, and with it, Loki appeared a short time later.
Qeng companies
In the Void you could see a reference to what we all thought was the Avengers Stark Tower, however, in a timeline, such a tower was led by Qeng Enterprises, the company to which Tony Stark sold the place in the 2015 Avengers comic.
The CEO of Qeng is a mysterious character named Mr. Gryphon, an alter ego of the villain we are all waiting to see, Kang the Conqueror.
Alioth
In the Marvel comics, Alioth is a purple cloud with red eyes that debuted in 1993, as a rival to – yes, you guessed it – Kang, the Conqueror. Now, and as we could see it in this fifth episode, the true identity of the “character” remains to be seen, since, from what we see, he is one more villain in the timeline.
Yellowjacket head
While we do the walk through the Void, we can see remains of a character that we already know, Yellowjacket from ‘Ant-Man’. In the MCU he was played by Corey Stoll, and since he got a subatomic crush at the hands of Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) we hadn’t seen a thing from him.
Although Yellowjacket in Loki only reaffirms the theories that ensure that this series has a connection with the quantum realm, the truth is that we are still at that point where we do not know what to believe and we do not want to give hasty conclusions.
Thanos-Helicopter
The one that so far we consider one of the best Easter eggs of the fifth episode is the remains of the Thanos-Copter. It made a brief but reckless appearance in 1979, as the Mad Titan’s favorite method of transportation. Understanding that the fan base itself considered it a “garbage”, it is certainly amusing to see that the TVA eliminated it from the timeline.
Mjolnir y Throg
For those of you who paid enough attention to the post-credit scene from episode four, you’ve surely seen that the Mjolnir made a guest appearance. It is not very clear if the hammer itself became a Variant, or if some Variant carried it, but it is clear that it is curious.
On the other hand, we also got to see the Throg, a combination between a frog and the God of Thunder. Yes, as you hear, Loki is not the only one who has “variants” of his own being. Simon Walterson was a human transformed into a frog, by magic, who was given the powers of the mythical Thor.
The Fallen Return: Captain America, Iron Man and the Infinity Stones
One of the Variants of Loki assured that he was considered a danger for being the one who killed Iron Man, Captain America and collecting all the Infinity Stones. Of course, the “Time Keepers” saw this as a danger to the Sacred Timeline, so it was eliminated.
Did Loki actually die?
One of the many theories that surround ‘Loki’ is the possibility that the God of Mischief is dead and this is a kind of purgatory. For this reason, one of the best Easter eggs is the conversation that happens between the Lokis about it.
True Loki fans will recognize that he is so “evil” as to have faked his own death, even when we all saw that Thanos murdered him. But is this the truth of Phase Four of the MCU?
Goodbye to the God of Mischief, Hello to the God of the Outcast?
Just as we have been discovering what makes a Loki, being Loki, a wink was also made at the possibility of a title change for Tom Hiddleston’s character. Recognizing Loki as the God of the Outcast is not something entirely new, as such a “title” appeared in the 2019 Loki # 5 comic.
Disney is present in the MCU
As we have well realized, everything is Disney today. And just as ‘The Simpsons’ makes its appearances in universes of the house of the mouse, it is only logical that Pixar can do the same. If we pay attention, we can see a nod to the Pizza Planet truck, the franchise we met in ‘Toy Story’.
The true Guardian of Time?
Everything continues to point to Kang the Conqueror being behind the TVA, and Alioth seems to be leading us down that path. In one of the scenes of the series you can see the villain’s comic book citadel, which actually serves as his base of operations as the Quantum Emperor.
