Developer EA Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment (DICE) has shared a very extensive entry on his official blog to talk about the new features in Battlefield 2042. Among all the news there is also bad news: the technical test has been delayed until further notice.
Apparently the idea is that a relatively small group of users can test a part of the game on different platforms, including cross-play. DICE wants to test how this works to avoid problems during launch. That said, there are usually problems with these tests so you have to wait for them.
Preparation time
This test was going to be available in the summer, but now it will go beyond this time of year, although they did not clarify dates. EA mentioned that cross-play will be available between PC and next-generation consoles (you can choose not to have cross-play in the options or between PS4 and Xbox One. That is, users of the new generation will not be able to play with those of the past.
This is because next gen servers accept up to 128 players, just like on PC. Meanwhile on PS4 and Xbox One there are only servers for 64, so it is not possible to face them.
On the other hand, DICE confirms that they not only work on cross-gameplay but on progress. In other words, the content you unlock on PS5 will also do so on other platforms, so you can freely switch consoles.
If you want to participate in the technical test you must reregister on this website, but it does not guarantee access, it is only a possibility.
The blog also has a lot of new information about classes and vehicles, as well as a conversation with the developers and creating maps. Battlefield 2042 seems to be the next big bet from EA that has already confirmed that it will not have a main campaign and will focus only on online modes.
