If you are thinking of stocking up on Battlefield 1 to get in the mood for the new Battlefield 2042, you should perhaps wait a little longer. The shooter could possibly be available for free shortly.
The Battlefield 2042 announcement also took previous titles in the franchise to new heights. Battlefield 4 in particular enjoyed a significantly increased popularity, also because the shooter was temporarily offered free of charge via Amazon Prime Gaming. The number of players increased significantly – and that could possibly also be ahead of us with regard to Battlefield 1.
A new rumor suggests that EA could potentially offer the shooter next week at no cost. At least that’s what the usually very well-informed Battlefield insider Tom Henderson says via Twitter. The offer for lukewarm is therefore intended as a further promotional campaign for the franchise returning this year with the new part Battlefield 2042. An announcement would then be expected during EA Play Live, which will be broadcast next week.

Downside: According to Henderson, it could also be that only the PC version of Battlefield 1 is offered free of charge via Origin. PS Plus subscribers can currently also access the PlayStation at no additional cost; Xbox users receive the shooter as part of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate via EA Play without having to buy it again separately. In the past, the shooter was also part of the Xbox Games with Gold line-up, so quite a few Xbox players should already be covered.
We’ll find out next week whether the Henderson rumor is confirmed. Incidentally, the new Battlefield 2042 will be released on October 22nd for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S.
