Currently, the Google Drive experience on Mac and PC is somewhat complicated. Divided into two different applications, File Stream and Backup & Sync, users they are forced to download both to meet your business needs. But, fortunately, that is about to change.
That’s right, one app to manage everything we have stored in Google Drive. This is what Google promised some time ago, and they will finally deliver on their promise. Over the next few weeks, the company will begin a transition to leave your current apps behind in search of a new one. For all types of users.
The big difference between the applications currently available is in the audience for which they are intended. While File Stream is designed for businesses, Backup & Sync is aimed at consumers. Both provide access to files and documents stored in the cloud, although the former is more cloud prone, and the latter for protecting local files.
With the application arriving in a few weeks, it will be possible to download and sync files, removable disks and view Drive folders directly on the computer. And all this, with the same program. A program that will cause previous applications to stop in a certain time.
For the transition, it seems that it will suffice to go to the notices that will be posted as soon as the program is available. According to Google, it is recommended to do this before September. And, if they keep their promises, there would be no problem changing as soon as they start advertising.
At the moment, as users, we have nothing to do. Until Google decides to take its old apps off the road, these will continue to work perfectly, and we will be able to make the change at any time. Of course, updates may not be guaranteed for those that remain.
