It is, has been and seems to be one of the great plagues of WhatsApp, not having a multi-device system like they do. Telegram or Facebook Messenger, allowing you to enjoy messaging service anywhere without having your phone slaved. Now, finally, it looks like everything will change.
WhatsApp is starting to roll out its multi-device service for users who will finally be able to use the messaging platform without having to connect their phones.
For now, it’s only available to beta users of WhatsApp, although it should reach all users in the coming days. In essence, the operation is identical to that of WhatsApp Web and the rest of the apps will work the same. This beta feature is mostly received by Android users, although we understand that it will be fully rolled out across all operating systems without distinction when said launch becomes official.
However, the system has some limitations such as you will not be able to set up chats on some platforms, join groups or see the location in real time. For now, what it essentially does is replicate messages. At the moment, only four devices can be connected at the same time and the dependence on the mobile phone disappears completely.
If you have the beta version of WhatsApp, go to the device linking section and you will see a “Beta version for various devices” button, in this case you can sign up for the beta and the operation will be automatic in all sessions linked to your account, yes you will have to re-scan the QR code in each of them.
