Many times our favorite manga are stopped due to health problems of their authors and, although some may take weeks or months to return, others even reach several years.
This is the case with Kei Sugita’s work, ‘Chouyaku Hyakuninisshu: Uta Koi.’, Which stopped its serialization in 2014 and which, according to a short announcement by its author, could return in the future.
According to sponichi japanese entertainment websiteSugita took to social media last Thursday to promote that the story will return in the future.
Although there is still no official date, the return to the author’s networks is in itself a sign that he is working on it, since since 2016 he had not addressed his fans directly.
The manga ‘Chouyaku Hyakuninisshu: Uta Koi.’ debuted at the Idea Factory publishing house in August 2010 and to date has four compilation volumes and an anime adaptation under the title ‘Utakoi’.
The animated adaptation began broadcasting in the summer 2012 season, reaching the West via the streaming service Crunchyroll with 13 episodes in total.
Both the manga and the anime feature a digestible version of Hyakunin Isshu’s anthology of poems that were written between the 7th and 13th centuries in Japan.
The anthology features 100 romantic poems by 100 different poets, such as Genji’s ‘The Tale of Murasaki Shikibu’ that are used as the basis for the traditional Japanese card game karuta, which you surely know after watching ‘Chihayafuru’.
In April 2016, Sugita published a spinoff manga in Idea Factory’s Monthly Comic Gene magazine, after which, once it ended, all communication through networks with the public ceased.
