A few weeks ago we were able to test the game beta of Konami’s upcoming soccer game. We knew that the jump to the 2022 version of eFootball PES (Pro Evolution Soccer) was going to be a radical change, with a new game engine, but we did not expect it to change its name and even its business model.
Konami officially announced that the game will not be called PES 2022, but simply eFootball and that it will be a free game or ‘free to play’. The name change will also be felt in Japan, where it will no longer be known as Winning Eleven.
Although free games tend to have a bad reputation due to their aggressive monetization systems, the truth is that many players had expressed their preference for a model like this for sports video games, such as the series FIFA. These typically feature full-price annual deliveries that usually only have minor equipment upgrades and upgrades. The change to become a ‘content platform’ with constant updates both free and paid makes sense for a saga like PES. Konami has already confirmed that it will not release annual versions of eFootball.
What is the release date of eFootball and what content will it include?
eFootball Coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, and PC in early Q4 2021. Later it will also come to iOS and Android mobile devices. Konami hasn’t mentioned anything about a possible Nintendo Switch version.
eFootball it will launch with nine teams to play and exhibition matches. Soon after you will receive online leagues, team building game mode (the equivalent of the previous MyClub or the FUT of FIFA) and support for cross-play between PlayStation, Xbox and Steam platforms. In early 2022, the eSports tournaments and the version for mobile devices with control support will begin.
The microtransactions and DLC model through which we will add new equipment to the game has not yet been specified.
Which teams will be included at launch in eFootball?
The teams with which we can play for free at the launch of eFootball will be
- FC Barcelona
- FC Bayern Munich
- Juventus
- Manchester United
- Arsenal
- Corinthians
- Flamengo
- Sao Paulo
- River Plate
We also don’t know anything about the possibility of seeing Colombian teams in the game.
