Large touchscreen keyboard – Kickstarter project introduction video

Do you remember the Logitech keyboards with integrated displays like the G15, G19 or G510? A Chinese company is now planning to implement this approach on a large scale – with considerable success at Kickstarter: The project is still running for less than five days and has already raked in 265,399 dollars of the targeted 4,245 dollars.

While the display of the long-defunct models from Logitech and current models such as Apex 7 from Steelseries or Z10 from EVGA is very small, the Kickstarter keyboard with the somewhat bulky name »Ficihp« is placed on a narrow monitor the full width of the keyboard.

If you don’t need a display and are generally looking for a new keyboard, we recommend our purchase advice:

Large touch screen as a second screen

According to official information, the display is 12.6 inches, has a resolution of 1920×515 and offers touch support. As with a second monitor, you can drag program windows onto the keyboard display using the mouse and work on them.

The device works via plug & play via a USB-C connection and, according to the manufacturer, does not require any additional drivers. It can also be used in combination with smartphones, but so far only Huawei EMUI and Samsung DEX have been explicitly mentioned as supported operating systems in the description.

The keyboard is available in two different versions from around 200 dollars each, which differ in weight, type and number of keys and other features. An overview of the main features of the two variants:

Application examples for the concept

Where can such a display be used profitably? Some notebooks like that Two Samsung SE have already shown that there are definitely areas of application for such hardware.

For example, a touchscreen can be used quite effectively in conjunction with a main screen when editing video. When playing, for example, hardware data such as load or temperature can be displayed.

On the other hand, the display only seems to be tiltable, which in connection with the non-reflective surface could prove to be quite annoying.

When does the keyboard appear? The delivery should already take place in August, with Kickstarter projects, however, a healthy dose of caution should always apply, also because the company behind it was newly founded and therefore has no references to show.

Would this keyboard be something for you too or do you think that such products will remain a niche market? Let us know your opinion in the comments.
