Mortal Kombat 11 has sold more than 12 million copies worldwide

Back when it was released, Mortal Kombat 11 dominated the leaderboards of every platform it appeared on-it was left out in the cold from the day it was released. Therefore, it is not surprising to hear Warner Bros. and NetherRealm announce that the game has sold more than 12 million units worldwide.

This means that since the original Mortal Kombat game was launched in 1992, the overall sales of the Mortal Kombat series have now exceeded 73 million.

When you consider that the series also gave birth to three drama films, animated films, and multiple TV series, that doesn’t count for a franchise that was considered so violent that it was almost withdrawn from arcades and cinema screens. Too bad, isn’t it?

“When Mortal Kombat was launched nearly 30 years ago, I never thought it would develop into the franchise it is today, with sales of more than 73 million games,” Ed, creative director of NetherRealm Studios and co-creator of Mortal Kombat Boon said in a press conference to release.

“We have some of the most passionate fans in the world, and we thank them for their support over the years.”

When this sales announcement was released, NetherRealm confirmed that Mortal Kombat 11 DLC support has ended, and the studio is focusing on the new game. NeatherRealm added new characters to the game through Kombat Pack 2 in November 2020-welcome Rambo, Mileena and Rain to join the different lineups.

As for the next step for the studio, we are not sure. Neither WB Games nor NetherRealm confirmed what the studio’s next project would be.
