Netflix intends to make The Witcher saga the “Game of Thrones” of its SVOD platform and is working parallel to this on season 2, the live-action Blood Origin spin-off series, but also on the film of the wolf animation. Berserk
We start this overview with a classic among the classics. Berserk is one of his, written and drawn by fire Kentaro Miura (the author died in 2021), prepublished in Hakuzensha’s Monthly Animal House between 1989 and 1992, then replaced by the bi-monthly Young Animal. This founding work of Japanese Dark Fantasy depicts a dark and fantastic medieval universe torn by internal wars and is based on an audience of charismatic characters, including Guts … a tormented hero with unique martial skills. Black clover
We are now leaving the banks of his to join those of the Shonen. Black clover is a manga written and illustrated by Yuki Tabata, has been pre-published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump since February 2015 and currently comprises 29 bound volumes and 300 chapters. The story takes place in a heroic fantasy world dominated by magic and follows the young and energetic Asta, who, unlike his brother, was born without magical powers, who seems to be overflowing with them, but fate will change during the grimoire ceremony. Castlevania
The following franchise is not unknown to gamers. Castlevania is originally an action-adventure game saga published by Konami since 1986, the last episode of which, Lords of Shadow 2, dates back to 2014. Aware of the strong potential of video gaming licenses Netflix has targeted a few of them, starting with the one we are particularly interested in … Castlevania. Released in 2017, the animated series Castlevania from Frederator Studios, covers the adventures of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse and follows the adventures of Trevor Belmont, Alucard and Sypha Belnades in a medieval fantasy world in which humans and vampires “coexist”. The fourth and final season has been available since May 2021.

Claymore
Claymore is a dark fantasy manga written and illustrated by Norihiro Yagi, pre-published in Monthly Shonen Jump since May 2001. The series, which now comes to an end after 27 bound volumes with a total of 155 chapters (or scenes), takes as the setting a fictional island in a medieval fantasy universe that is threatened by the Yoma, humanoid creatures that can change. To deal with this evil, a mysterious “organization” of the same name is creating human-Yoma hybrids to eliminate the threat. These warriors are called claymores, based on the sword they use in battle. The famous Madhouse Studios adapted the first eleven volumes of the 2007 saga in an animated series with 26 episodes. There is also a video game developed by Digital Works Entertainment – Claymore: Gingan no Majo – Released for Nintendo DS in May 2009 only.

Demon Hunter
Return to shonen with one of the modern phenomena of the weekly shonen jump, which largely owes its success to its animated adaptation. Demon Hunter (or Kimetsu no Yaiba from its original Japanese title) is a manga written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotoge, pre-published in the famous Shueisha magazine between February 2016 and May 2020 with the last 23 bound volumes for 205 chapters. Demon Slayer is set in a changing Japan, the Taisho era (1912-1926), and tells of the adventures of Tanjiro Kamado. This coal seller, who has seen his family slaughtered by a demonic creature, becomes a demon slayer to save his young sister, who is herself transformed but retains part of humanity. The first season of the animated series produced by Ufotable Studios 2019 was an absolute hit, just like the movie Infinity Train (2020). Season 2 is slated for late 2021, as is the video game adaptation. Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles will be released in France on October 15, 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S.

Drifters
One time is not common in this selection, we’re going to be approaching a genre that has been on the rise in recent years … Isekai Tensei. It’s about a literary sub-genre that drives the essence of our world into a universe of often heroic fantasy. Drifters is written and drawn by his own Kouta Hirano, pre-published since 2009 in the Young King Ours de la Gahosha. The series, which is still in progress, comprises 6 bound volumes and 77 chapters. Drifters is interested in certain characters from different historical eras who are mysteriously evoked in a universe on the verge of destruction, populated by humans and several so-called fantastic races, be they elves, dwarves or even hobbits. To a first FVO in June 2016 from Hoods Drifters Studios, the same studios adapted the first narrative arcs in 2016 Animated series with 12 episodes to which 2 OAV and a special episode are added. A season 2 was made official without specifying an exit window.

Goblin Slayer
The title of the next and last animation in this selection speaks for itself. Goblin Slayer, His One That Slices Through the Heart, is originally a light novel series that started in 2016 and was written by Kumo Kagyu and illustrated by Noboru Kannatsuki. Several adaptations in the manga then see the light of day. Goblin Slayer is set in a dark fantasy universe that is traversed by many adventurers in search of fortune and fame, and dwells with an atypical warrior who has only one goal … to exterminate the goblins. Goblin Slayer will be in. customized Animated series from White Fox Studios with a first season of 12 episodes followed by the film Goblin Slayer: Goblin’s Crown (February 2020). A second season is currently in production. A release date has not yet been communicated.
