Lord of the Rings Season 1: Plot of the Amazon series
Amazon’s excursion to Middle-earth is a prequel to Peter Jackson’s films. This was defined in more detail by the official synopsis for the “Lord of the Rings” series. This is how the series plays in Second Age Middle-earth and thus around a thousand years before “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit”.
Amazon Studios’ upcoming series brings the heroic legends of the fabulous Second Age of Middle-earth history to screens for the first time. Set a thousand years before the events of JRR Tolkien’s ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’, this epic drama will transport viewers into an era when great powers were created, kingdoms rose to fame and ruin, and different heroes become various heroes Put to the test, hope hangs by a thread, and the greatest villain Tolkien ever put on paper threatens to plunge the whole world into darkness.
Synopsis of Amazon’s “The Lord of the Rings” series
With the “greatest villain” is natural Sauron meant, which was the ultimate evil in “The Lord of the Rings”. In the “Lord of the Rings” series, we will therefore witness the forging of the rings, because these played a central role in Sauron’s plan to bring down Middle-earth to its ruin.
With the rise and fall of kingdoms, reference is made to the fall of the island of Númenor. Book fans know that Sauron seduced the king Númenors and made him rise above the gods, which eventually led to the literal demise of the island.
The synopsis of the series goes even further and gives Middle-earth fans one or two tidbits by mentioning well-known locations in the fantasy world.
Beginning at a relatively peaceful time, the series follows an ensemble of characters, both familiar and new, who face the resurgence of evil in Middle-earth. From the deepest depths of the Nebelgebirge over the majestic forests of the Elven capital Lindon to the breathtaking island of Númenor, […] these kingdoms and characters will create legacies that [noch lange nachhallen werden].
Synopsis of Amazon’s “The Lord of the Rings” series
It has already been confirmed that the “well-known figures” are Sauron, Elrond and Galadriel. We could expect more figures, however. Galadriel’s husband Celeborn will certainly play a role and Elrond’s wife, Celebrían, who is known to book fans, could also appear.
The casting dialogues are about intruders from the west on the coasts of Middle-earth. There is also talk of a queen, presumably Tar-Ancalime, Königin Númenórs. At that time the people of Middle-earth and the Númenórians still lived relatively peacefully.
Meanwhile, Sauron secretly begins forging the One Ring to rule them all. You can find more information in our Overview of the plot of the LotR series.

Little is known about the roles. Only Morfydd Clark is confirmed as Galadriel. In doing so, she inherits Oscar winner Cate Blanchett, who played the role in Peter Jackson’s films. GoT star Joseph Mawle is rumored to be playing a rogue role.
Contrary to some rumors, Mawle will not play Sauron, but a “black Númenórer”, who as Diener Will Know is up to mischief. In addition to the actors just listed, Amazon is expanding the cast of the series by twenty more actors.

It has now been confirmed that Middle-earth fans are aware of the two elves Galadriel and Elrond can look forward to. Also head villain Sauron plays a prominent role. While a new actress has already been found for Galadriel, it is not yet known who will portray Elrond and Sauron.
In addition to the confirmed actors, casting scripts already give first insights into characters in the series. The names that the characters bear can still change. With such large projects, it is common practice to use working titles for the casting so that as few details as possible are made public.
These characters reveal scripts from the auditions for Amazon’s LOTR series:
- Brac: Irascible, sullen half of a dramatic duo
- Kari: Village healer, single mother, part of the rebellion against the conquest of Númenór
- Ice cream: Emotionally reserved, father with estranged son and close relationship with daughter
- Hamsom: Old warrior, loving family man with health problems
