According to the CEO, releasing a Battlefield title every two years makes sense. Even so, the focus will be on the annual cycle.
When Battlefield 2042 launches October 22, it will be three years since the franchise’s last title. In an interview with VGC EA CEO Andrew Wilson said if players can expect a new Battlefield title every two years.
He said that “that would probably make sense,” possibly implying that this could be the series’ release cycle. However, he stressed that EA see the series as a live service model as a whole, even if that does not mean constant updating of a particular game. Ultimately, it’s all about the annual supply, which will also be reflected in future models.
“You should understand that this is how we envision the future of live service around Battlefield, which over time will include a mobile version, some free components, and the nature of what will be Happening from start to start, it will really change. “
“While a biennial launch probably makes sense when we think about it today, we’re really focusing on 365 days of engaging with the franchise at the platform level and on all of the devices consumers want to play on.”
Battlefield 2042 will be available on October 22, 2021 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC released. An open beta is scheduled for September 6th.
