Apple’s review of its speaker line has corrected the shortcomings of its previous editions. From its early days on the market, to this day, HomePod mini’s power and practicality declared undisputed. However, this was not enough to position itself as the preferred option for users of this type of device.
According to a new report shared by CIRP, on sales results for the second quarter of this year, they made it clear the continued dominance of Amazon and GoogleWhile the HomePod and HomePod mini are still a small number of smart speaker owners.
HomePod mini struggles to catch up with rivals
CIRP data indicates that the U.S. smart speaker market reached 126 million devices in June 2021, being Amazon which obtained the vast majority with 69%, with its Echo and Google devices with a market share of around 20%. The report did not indicate the exact market share of HomePod mini, but according to the chart, it seems to have increased slightly year-on-year to reach 7 million units, below 10%.
Another salient point of the report was that Amazon and Google also dominate when it comes to bringing multiple smart speakers into customer homes.. Amazon also has a higher proportion of homes with smart speakers. According to CIRP analysis and multi-device internal accounting.
“We estimate that over 50 million households in the United States have at least one Amazon Echo device, and approximately 23 million households have at least one Google Nest / Home device. Manufacturers are looking to sell multiple devices to consumers, in order to create a bigger barrier to switching to competing systems. “
By this measure, Amazon has its devices in more than 20 million American homes. For comparison, Google has around 8 million homes with multiple Nest / Home devices and Apple only has two million with more than one HomePod.
