Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Siege of Paris Review: A Good Time

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has always been a huge game, and yet Ubisoft keeps making it bigger. The latest DLC, The siege of Paris, finds Viking assassin Eivor, who faces a mad king, helps a French rebellion, and rescues a Viking clan whose leaders are obsessed with endless war and bloodshed. Needless to say, she is very tired of everything, bbut i am not tired of Valhalla. This latest DLC breathes new life into the game, even as it suffers from annoying performance issues.

The siege of Paris begins with some Danes visiting the growing settlement of Eivor. They come with gifts, build a house and throw a big party. It’s all very nice – maybe a little also kind. The Vikings declare that they need help fighting a growing French army led by a dangerous and maddened king, Charles the Fat. Although initially hesitant, Eivor realizes that this deadly monarch could one day pose a threat to her clan in England and agrees to travel to France to help the Vikings and rebels overthrow the royal fat cat. However, once you get there and talk to the people on both sides of the conflict, it becomes clear that anger, vengeance and bloodshed have dazzled many in France. So Eivor has to balance the different actors in the conflict while trying to save both the innocent people of Paris and the Vikings who are looking for a place to live in peace.

If that sounds a bit complicated, it is, but don’t worry. The approximately 10-hour campaign in siege is well-written and conveys its complexity in an easy-to-understand way, even if The situation that Eivor finds itself in is a mess. That’s interesting too Siege of Paris spends a lot of time talking about how whether the Vikings who settle in England are peaceful or violent, their presence means generations of families will lose land and resources. Eivor himself seems to get tired of it at some point narrating her pet raven that She never expected to end up traveling the world just to see more kings and thegns complaining and killing each other. As someone with over 130 hours in this game and its DLC, I can understand that. Same thing, Dane. S.an I

But if you’re not into narrative, character arcs, and the like, don’t worry. Siege of Paris, not as last DLC set in Ireland, is more alive and full of things to do. You will find side quests, lots of hidden areas to explore and a whole system in which you help rebels overthrow the kingdom. If Wrath of the Druids

and its Irish surroundings were too quiet and boring for you, Siege of Paris will likely be more in your wheelhouse. There are more people to meet, kill, and talk to, as well as the chance for an easy romance.

The big star of this DLC is the return of “Black Box ”missions last seen in older, more stealth-focused AC Games. These missions involve large areas and a single target or objective hidden somewhere in space. You have to explore and puzzle how to kill your target or achieve your goal. These missions allow great freedom in your approach, letting super assassin ninjas get their way and letting awkward fools beat and stab to the messy end. I really enjoy these missions; they felt more like classic Assassin’s Creed

. There aren’t too many in the DLC, but enough that I think players will miss the sneakier action of the last games will be satisfied.

That indeed Siege of Paris is great too, and involves multiple quests and an exciting build-up to an explosive climax. When the siege begins It’s loud, exciting, and unlike any other questline in the main game. From this point on, all of your decisions and actions quickly lead to a memorable finale. I will not spoil anythingbut believe me, it’s a great, self-contained story worth experiencing for yourself.

I wish I could end the blog here and says I really liked this DLC and I think it’s worth buying if you want to play some more Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, or if you miss the more stealth-oriented action of the classics. However, this new DLC has been going like crap for me since I started playing it a few days ago. I played on PS5 with the game’s 60fps mode, and it would often fall well below that point. Screen tearing and audio slowdown were also common in certain areas of the map, e.g. B. in Paris. Others have reported these issues as well.

It’s a shame because Valhalla and his first DLC ran mostly well in 60fps mode. Hopefully a future patch can fix some of these issues so that this excellent addition can shine brighter.
