Humankind should urgently be postponed again

Genre: Strategy | Release: 17. August 2021 | Platform: PC, Stages | Developer: Amplitude Studios

One would think that Humankind was announced eons ago and postponed again and again. However, the 4X strategy game was officially presented at gamescom 2019 – almost exactly two years ago. The release was originally planned for 2020 and subsequently postponed several times.

Humankind is developed by Amplitude Studios – the developer behind Endless Space. In Humankind you are allowed to create human culture and lead it through different epochs to fame – or you plunge it into ruin. Both are possible in the turn-based grand strategy game – according to the motto: “If I had been responsible for it, it wouldn’t look like this here!”

While your “civilization” pokes through the dirt with branches to find food and your vocabulary is limited to a few animal sounds at the beginning, it later builds wonders of the world – where you would like to build them. Yes, evolution is really fascinating.

The more than 60 real cultures and their traditions that you can acquire in the course of the game are also fascinating. Expect a lot of variety from, for example, Egyptians, Vikings, Khmer and numerous other cultures that have had a lasting impact on our planet.

More exciting releases of the week

Do you still remember Twelve Minutes? The interactive adventure in which we experience the same twelve minutes over and over again? Developer Luis Antonia himself describes it as an interactive thriller in which a criminal investigator breaks into your apartment, accuses your wife of murder and beats you to death.

After a few postponements, Twelve Minutes will be released on August 19, 2021. You are trying to stop the time loop in order to save your wife and not bite the grass yourself. By the way, it is always exciting for film fans that the actors James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley and Willem Dafoe Twelve Minutes have their voices available.

Twelve Minutes: New trailer finally reveals the release date

No time loop, but just as exciting are the upcoming players this week, which we will list for you in chronological order:

Monday, August 16, 2021

  • Road 96: procedurally generated story in which you hitchhike your way to freedom on a road trip. Each run should tell a different story.

Tuesday 17th August 2021

  • Humankind: If you jumped directly to the list, just for the sake of completeness. X4 strategy game in which you live through different eras and build your own civilization.
  • Greak: Memories of Azur: Side-scrolling platformer with hand-drawn animation. You lead the sibling trio Greak, Adara and Raydel through the fantasy land of Azur. Each character has unique abilities.

  • Marvel’s Avengers: Black Panther – War for Wakanda: Expansion for the online action adventure.

Wednesday, August 18, 2021

  • Mortal Shell: Strictly speaking, the homage to the Dark Souls series does not belong in this list: After a year of exclusivity on the PC in the Epic Games Store, the “Dark Souls in a nutshell” is now also available on Steam.

  • Hell Architect: Reminds strongly of Oxygen not Included – but the game takes place in Hell and you build and manage your diabolical realm there.

Thursday, August 19, 2021

  • Twelve Minutes: For the sake of completeness, we also list Twelve Minutes here again. The interactive thriller puts you in a time loop in which you experience the same twelve minutes over and over again.
  • Recompile: In the Metroidvania-inspired action adventure game, you take control of a semi-intelligent program that tries to avoid its extinction. For this you complete fights, platform and hacking inserts.

  • RiMS Racing: Motorcycle simulation that aims to combine a realistic driving challenge with technology and mechanics.

Friday 20th August 2021

  • Arietta of Spirits: Pixel-based story adventure in which you as Arietta solve the puzzles of the spirit realm. In addition to fights, there should be a story full of emotions and surprises.

Saturday, August 21, 2021

  • Madden NFL 22: EA is releasing a sequel to the football game again this year. A new franchise mode with personnel management and a revised scenario engine is offered.
