Kevin Feige remains unconfirmed, or denied, what kind of release will have ‘Eternals’, the long-awaited production of Oscar winner Chloe Zhao from Phase 4 of the MCU.
After Scarlett Johansson sued the mouse company for breach of contract by releasing ‘Black Widow’, things have not been easy for Disney. Now, the world is wondering if the company’s plans will change in terms of its launches, and with what productions it would happen.
‘Eternals’ is confirmed to officially arrive on November 5, however, the question we ask ourselves is: Will Disney Plus premiere the film as part of its Premier Access or can we only see it in the cinema?
In an interview with Variety, during the premiere of ‘Shang-Chi’, when Feige was asked about the release status, he responded with a vague ‘we’ll see’, which immediately leads us to think that there is a degree of insecurity and uncertainty around the decision.
For his part, Feige has always been blunt with his position on theatrical releases, stating that he prefers that the audience enjoy the MCU films on the big screen. Now, we must also consider what Zhao, the director of the film, wants. And of course, like the president of Marvel, she wants to see ‘Eternals’ at the box office.
Although Bob Chapek recently claimed that ‘Shang-Chi’ would premiere on Disney Plus only 45 days after being in theaters, it is unknown if this applies to all productions on the way. Therefore, we believe that you are waiting to see the results of this experiment to decide.
It is no secret to anyone that the “outdated” premiere between cinema and streaming could affect the Disney Plus numbers, so we do not believe that the Black Widow’s lawsuit could make Premier Access disappear. Not with the Delta variant of COVID-19 released through the streets of the world.
