Samsung is turning its Galaxy phones into ID cards. You will soon be able to save your ID on these smartphones and show them if necessary.
- From winter 2021 you can identify yourself with a Galaxy mobile phone.
- The data of the identity card are saved in a separate area on the mobile phone.
- Only the Galaxy S20 is currently participating in the program; other cell phones are currently undergoing the necessary certification processes.

Like the South Korean manufacturer in-house Newsroom reported, you will be able to use e-government services from winter 2021 and get in touch with the on Smartphone authenticate stored identity card.
You need an NFC-enabled identity card and the AusweisApp2. It is enough to hold the ID up to the mobile phone, the document is then saved in a separate, secure area on the smartphone.
These Samsung phones are supported
Currently this is only possible on the Galaxy S20. Other devices like the Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy S21, Z Flip 3, Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 2 are currently going through the technical and security certification processes. Galaxy A series smartphones will also be equipped with the certified chip in the future.

It is currently uncertain whether other cell phones from other manufacturers will also participate in the program. The US company Apple has also been offering iOS 15 in the USA a similar function. It is still unclear when this will be available in Germany.
