New Chinese Laws Want to Force Businesses to Store More User Data!
Apple is once again at the center of the controversy over the privacy of its users, now in one of the most important markets for the firm. According to recent reports, the company could be forced to give in to new legislation in China This would require you to collect more data from users in that country.
A recent report released by The Information explains that Apple is facing pressure to store more data on its users in China, leaving it in an awkward position. Apple faces privacy pressures in China
From the entry into force of the law on the protection of personal data of November 1 and the law on data security entered into force in September, Apple will be accountable to the Chinese Cyberspace Administration, which leads their compliance. Both are forcing businesses to store more data on earth and avoid their transfer outside the borders of China.
The same report predicts a sensitive future for the privacy of Chinese customers. New laws require statistics on iPhone usage and connection and communication logs for devices that pass through Apple’s servers, which Chinese authorities could use to identify and track individuals.
It wouldn’t be the first time Apple has faced similar demands from the Chinese government. In 2015, authorities visited Apple’s Shanghai offices and said the company “It was to start storing information such as sales data from its Chinese retail stores in the country.”To the above, Apple responded that it “has launched an effort to comply”. But later In 2018, Apple confirmed that it had transferred data from Chinese customers’ iCloud operations to servers located in the country..
