Already before the launch of the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros, we had heard rumors about something called Power Mode. From the name we deduce that it would be a high performance mode of macOS Monterey, the opposite of the well-known low consumption mode, with which the power of our computers would increase considerably. Now MacRumors is releasing new details.
A mode reserved for 16-inch MacBook Pro with M1 Max
As he was able to extract the post from internal Apple documents, the power mode will appear in the system preferences of 16-inch MacBook Pros that mount an M1 Max inside and run macOS Monterey. According to Apple, this mode will give users a “Extreme performance” for tasks such as digitally filing 8K ProRes video.
Beyond the “official” confirmation of the arrival of this feature, very little is known about it. Remember that after the discovery of this mode in a beta of macOS Monterey by 9to5mac, the only thing we know is that this mode “Optimize performance to better support resource-intensive tasks” and this “may result in louder fan noise”.
According to MacRumors, the Apple document only refers to the 16-inch MacBook Pro. Although it is possible to configure an M1 Max on 14-inch MacBook Pros, it is possible that this mode is reserved only for the largest computers in the range. A movement that could have its justification of the cooling capacity of a larger machine.
For now, we’ll have to wait until, during this week, the first MacBook Pro units start arriving both to the press and to those who made the first reservations. As with all computers, we will discover new features over time with these machines at our disposal. We will see then, in which situations we can activate the Power Mode and what it allows us to do.
