It’s been 20 years since the launch of the iPod, the device that changed Apple forever.
Apple was more or less a well-known IT company 20 years ago. But at that point, Steve Jobs decided to make one of the most important decisions that would change the history of the company. Apple introduced the iPod, a revolutionary device that puts 1,000 songs in your pocket.
The iPod has made Apple a universal company. The company ceased to be an IT company forever, and laid the foundation for the Apple we all know. The original iPod was the first mainstream portable device Apple introduced after Steve Jobs returned to the company, an affordable device that got many to meet Apple for the first time.
The first iPod arrived 20 years ago
October 23, 2001 Steve Jobs took to the town hall stage of 4 Infinite Loop in Cupertino and introduced the first iPod. Like every time Apple introduces a new device, the industry hasn’t quite figured it out. Not many people understand why an IT company released an mp3 player.
But what few people liked was the significance this little device could mean to Apple. The The iPod was the perfect type of device for consumers to discover an Apple product, which also accompanies you everywhere. And there was also iTunes.
It is true that the iPod really started to gain importance with the second generation, with the launch iTunes for Windows. Apple created the world’s largest songstore, and the iPod was the perfect device to take advantage of it.
In the following years we saw many new iPod models, in different sizes, colors and capacities. This has allowed the device to generate incredible sales, especially among younger users who have become attached to the company. Many of those users fell in love with Apple and have continued to trust the company since then.
