Halloween is just around the corner, so you know what that means: special Halloween events in your favorite video games! You thought we said candy? With the big day just around the corner, a number of games have revealed their plans to celebrate the scariest holidays with special events. A lot of great things are happening this year, so let’s take a look at some of the great things.
Minecraft Spookyfest & Minecraft Dungeons Creepier fall events
You can always count on Mojang to have fun with Halloween in Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons. New Minecraft Dungeon Seasonal Trials unlock exclusive items, including the Cackling Broomstick, Phantom Arch, and the creepy Gourdian armor set. Head over to Minecraft to download a free Spooky Gourdian Character Creator item and a free Halloween Fiends skin pack. The team is also celebrating Halloween IRL, so Go to Minecraft.net for full details.
Sea of Thieves – Fury of the Damned
For a game full of creepy skeletons and ghost ships, it might not come as a surprise that the team at Rare always makes it big on Halloween. At this year’s in-game event, players can earn extra favor with the Bilge Rats by completing tasks (set in-game via Mysterious Notes), such as destroying skeleton ships or emptying skeleton forts. When you reach certain thresholds of favor, you will be awarded Wicked Web cosmetic items for your efforts. There are even community spirit challenges to destroy large numbers of skeletons and give pirates even more rewards after the end of Fury of the Damned. For more details, Visit the Sea of Thieves official website.
Fortnite – Fortnite mares
Fortnite’s Halloween event is again titled Fortnitemares and will feature some spooky decorations on the island where the game’s battles take place. There are also some new skins for gamers, including Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead and the most popular lab-made monster, Frankenstein.
Apex Legends – monsters inside
In addition to special Halloween costumes for characters like Bloodhound and the already scary Revenant, Apex Legends will also feature a returning game type called Shadow Royale. In this mode, dead players return as ghosts who can help their teammates from beyond the grave.
Rocket League – Haunted Hallows
Developer Psyonix always goes big with their Halloween offers and this year is no different. Instead of looking creepy, however, this year’s Haunted Hallows event will focus on the most popular cloaked crusader: Batman. The big draw is the ability to unlock both the 1989 and 2016 versions of the Batmobile, though there’s also the new Gotham City Rumble mode that places the Rumble game type right in Batman’s world.
Rainbow Six Siege – The Doctor’s Curse
Everyone who plays Rainbow Six Siege loves the annual Doctor’s Curse event, so it’s no surprise that Ubisoft is bringing it back for another year. Offering a spooky twist on the tried and tested Rainbow Six Siege formula, this mode finds players battling their way through the Doctor’s title castle as mutant Operators battle their way through twisted creatures out to destroy them. As the mode’s slogan says, “When the doctor is gone, the monsters will play.”
Overwatch – Halloween Terror
Overwatch’s annual Halloween Terror Event has been a staple of the season’s series since 2016, bringing back Junkenstein’s revenge with new challenge missions for players to complete. For those fans just out for the loot, there are also plenty of weekly challenges that feature icons, sprays, icons, and even some epic skins. You can even snap up some loot boxes that contain cosmetics and equipment from previous Halloween terror events.
Destiny 2 – Festival of the Lost
Festival of the Lost Returns! Once again, you’ll put on a mask and collect candy from across the universe, then dive into haunted versions of the game’s lost sectors to defeat headless enemies. Much like the Headless Horseman, they’ll be carrying jack-o’-lanterns on their shoulders, so do these headshots!
Call of Duty: Warzone – The Haunting
If you’re looking for a game mode that changes everything you’d expect in a game, Warzone’s second annual Halloween event is the place for you. The Haunting is a fun twist on the Infection game mode in Warzone, in which players turn into ghosts after their death and acquire special powers that they can unleash on their unsuspecting (and still living) teammates. There is even a scare knife that, when filled, will give you a good scare!
Nobody’s Heaven – Origin
Giant Worms: So Hot Right Now! While No Man Sky added massive, millipede-like titanium worms to the game in an update this year, the Emergence event gives players the chance to tame them, ride them, and, yes, even raise your own from a tiny baby worm . Plus, you can grab a special worm mask that’s just as scary as it sounds.
