Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics and Eidos-Montréal are celebrating the 25th Anniversary of TOMB RAIDER today with several announcements of new events and offers that are available now or soon to be released for fans of the cult video game series.
The first game in the Tomb Raider series was released in October 1996. The franchise with more than 20 games has sold over 85 million copies worldwide and won dozens of awards.
The protagonist Lara Croft is one of the most famous video game characters in the world and has become an icon loved by millions of fans around the world.
The Tomb Raider franchise is also a pop culture mega-hit with three films, several comic book series, a variety of successful merchandise products and soon a new animated TV series.
Here are some of the 25th anniversary promotions that fans can look forward to in the coming months.
Tomb Raider video games
As part of the celebration of Tomb Raider’s 25th Anniversary, many games and add-ons are available on Steam, Humble Bundle, Green Man Gaming, GOG.com, the Square Enix Store, the Xbox Games Store and discounted up to 89% in the PlayStation Store.
In addition, Crystal Dynamics and Prime Gaming are giving away Rise of the Tomb Raider on PC to all Prime members from November 1st to 14th. A collaboration between Crystal Dynamics and Feral Interactive has also been announced. This will bring Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris to Nintendo Switch in 2022 – this is the first debut of the Tomb Raider series on this platform.
Square Enix London Mobile announced today that the three original voice actresses for Lara Croft in English alongside Keeley Hawes in Tomb Raider Reloaded will be heard when the game launches on mobile next year.
For a limited time, players can indulge in nostalgia and choose which classic voice to hear for iconic adventurer Lara Croft: Shelley Blond (Tomb Raider), Judith Gibbins (Tomb Raider II, Tomb Raider III: Adventures of Lara Croft), Jonell Elliott (Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Tomb Raider: Chronicles, Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness), or Keeley Hawes (Tomb Raider: Legend, Tomb Raider: Anniversary, Tomb Raider: Underworld, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris).
Tomb Raider anime series on Netflix
Netflix and Legendary Television are collaborating with Powerhouse Animation, the studio behind hits like Castlevania, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and Blood of Zeus, on a new Tomb Raider anime series.
Last month it was announced that Hayley Atwell (Captain America, Mission: Impossible 7) would be voicing adventurer Lara Croft, and today the companies announced that Allen Maldonado (Heels, The Wonder Years) will be part of the cast and tech expert and colleague Zip lends his voice.
Earl Baylon takes on the role from the video game again as one of Lara’s most trusted friends and the voice of reason: Jonah Maiava.
The animation series takes place after the events of the extremely successful “Survivor” trilogy, which is told in Tomb Raider (2013), Rise of the Tomb Raider (2015) and Shadow of the Tomb Raider (2018) and presents the next chapter of the traveling heroine and legendary Tomb Raider adventurer. Tomb Raider: The LIVE Experience will give fans the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of Tomb Raider. For the first time ever, teams of visitors will work together while they are part of a real Tomb Raider adventure and challenge their destinies side by side with well-known characters from the blockbuster franchise.
In this groundbreaking adventure, visitors race against time as they help Lara Croft solve a mystery that can save the world.
The World of Lara Croft – 25 Years of Tomb Raider, an exhibition at the Storyworld Museum in Groningen, Netherlands, will also make its debut in 2022. Storyworld is a museum dedicated to storytelling in comics, animation and games, with a focus on the creativity through which the stories come to life.
The World of Lara Croft presents the history of the Tomb Raider games and media, the art and design of the cult games, and the appeal of the game and the protagonist.
The exhibition offers content from the origins of the game in 1996 to the most recent Survivor trilogy, which began in 2013 with the reboot of the game Tomb Raider. Visitors can learn about design details, developer insights, and elements of Tomb Raider in the real world, including a selection of the merchandise, as well as the films and comics that have been released over the years.

Tomb Raider – Charity and donations
Crystal Dynamics is committed to giving back to the community and is planning several initiatives to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
In honor of the many talented women, including writers, voice actors, actresses, models, artists, and game developers, who brought Lara Croft to life over the years, the company donated $ 25,000 to the International Rescue Committee.
An additional donation of $ 20,000 was made on behalf of Camilla Luddington Women for women international done as a special thank you for the passion and phenomenal performance she showed for Lara Croft in Tomb Raider (2013), Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Their award-winning performances laid the foundation for the future of the franchise.

In addition, on November 6th, Crystal Dynamics will participate in a 24-hour charity event for Extra Life, which raises money for the San Francisco Bay Area UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals. The company will donate $ 25,000 to celebrate 25 years of Tomb Raider and is hoping to raise an additional $ 25,000.
As of today, over a dozen rare items from Tomb Raider history are on the platform eBay for charity listed to raise funds in advance. Purchasing any of these items is a great opportunity for fans to own a piece of video game history while also supporting a good cause.
During 2021, Crystal Dynamics hired talented artists from around the world to recreate the Tomb Raider packaging design over the years. Towards the end of the year, the company will host a charity event through the Square Enix store through which a full set of 15 prints of the redesigned packaging design can be purchased.
