Game news Tomb Raider: Lara Croft finally hits Switch to celebrate the series’ 25th anniversary
First released in late October 1996, Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider franchise in general have just celebrated their 25th anniversary! A very nice longevity that Square Enix is currently celebrating with some announcements, including the arrival of two adventures of the retired archaeologist emeritus on the portable Nintendo console.
After traveling all over the world and many ancient places, the young archaeologist sets out to explore a brand new temple, the Big N. For the first time in the Tomb Raider game series, Lara Croft will bring two of her adventures to the Switch next year ! Alongside this announcement, Square Enix revealed many other surprises on a page dedicated to the 25 years of the franchise.
Two ports to the switch
Unfortunately, we are not talking about two original adventures here, but about two portages of ancient expeditions by the famous archaeologist.. This announcement will of course be disappointed, but so will happy people who will be able to share two, or up to four, two high quality spin-offs developed by Crystal Dynamics.
The two derivative titles in the Tomb Raider series that will appear on Switch in 2022 are Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, which was released in August 2010, and the sequel Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, which was released in December 2014. The ports are being handled by Feral Interactive, a studio best known for their successful work on the ports of Alien Isolation and GRID: Autosport.
Compared to the original work, these two spin-offs emphasize the collaboration. Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, action-adventure in isometric view, allows you, alone or in pairs, to explore the Temple of Light with the help of the Mayan warrior Totec to re-seal the evil Guardian of the Darkness, Xolotl.
Its continuation, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, double your stake by letting you do it play up to four players (Lara accompanied by Carter, Isis and Horus), always in the form of an adventure in isometric view, in order to thwart the terrible plans of the chaos god Seth.
You can find the two tests here and here. An exact release date is not known at the moment, but Square Enix has many plans to keep us waiting. a mobile phone title and other surprises on the anniversary page of the license.
