While you might think Nintendo had a number of official stores in Japan, the Kyoto-based game company only has one. The Tokyo-based store, cleverly dubbed Nintendo Tokyo, opened in November 2019. But that will change because now, in November 2021, Nintendo has announced a second.
It is located in Osaka and will be one too very clever name: Nintendo Osaka. The shop will open at the end of 2022 and will in the Daimaru department store in Umeda, one of the city’s central locations. Above is the store’s logo, which looks exactly like that of the Tokyo branch.
As with Nintendo Tokyo, Nintendo Osaka will be filled with merchandise featuring characters. In case you missed it Check out this previous report shows the Tokyo location when it first opened. Nintendo manages its retail locations directly, what helps the product quality and the Overall experience.
This will only be Nintendo’s second official store in Japan (there is also a Nintendo New York previously called the Nintendo World Store), but I envision other possible locations for stores in Japan in Kyoto, Fukuoka, and Sapporo. Pokémon has official retail stores across Japan called Pokémon Center, so we need to see if Nintendo plans to expand these stores in a similar way.
When Nintendo first announced Nintendo Tokyo, the company explains stated his goal for the shop in the official announcement, saying, “In addition to selling products such as video game systems, software and character-based merchandise, we plan to host events and offer gaming opportunities at Nintendo Tokyo. We are preparing to make this store, which will be a new base for communicating Nintendo information in Japan, an enjoyable place for a wide range of consumers. ”
Nintendo will provide more details on its upcoming Osaka location at a later date.
