Google Messages will allow you to send videos via SMS using the Photos cloud

Cloud, Google, messages, photos, send, SMS, videos

On the market, there are specialized services for the exchange of large files between two or more users. We are not talking specifically about P2P services, which also have the same purpose, but of services that have cloud storage and they allow us to download something there and then share the link, either for viewing or for downloading.

Google seems to want to do something similar when it comes to sending videos to other users … via SMS. Until now the only viable way to do this was to use MMS (without looking for other more current technology) but now Google wants us to be able to share a video via text message with anyone. And that’s why, Google Messages will use Google Photos as a download platform.

Upload photos, send the link, all automatically

The information comes directly from 9to5Google. The famous site dedicated, among other things, to the Android ecosystem dissected Google Messages version 10.4, which is currently only available on the app’s beta channel. And that’s where they hunted for a new feature included in its settings.

21 free services for sending large files

In this version 10.4 of Google Messages, you can see a “Google Photos” option in the settings which is described as “Share higher quality videos by text (SMS / MMS)”. So that’s what Google wants use Google Photos to store videos to send to our contacts by SMS or MMS in the event that the recipient, or even ourselves, has not activated RCS messaging.

For convenience, this would be a similar solution to using Google Drive to share a large file, but it looks like Google wants to redirect all video content to its Google Photos platform, bypassing YouTube either. We would talk in any case that the video would be uploaded to Photos and the link would be sent via SMS, although It is not clear if the video would be stored temporarily or it would be available forever through said link.

Everything indicates that this inclusion of sending videos via Google Messages and using Photos it would be accompanied by the possibility of viewing the video from the application itself. As if, for all intents and purposes, the video was sent using an RCS message. It is even possible for the video to be previewed in the chat between the two contacts so that the use of Google Photos is completely transparent.
