Oddworld: Soulstorm was already released for PC and PlayStation in April, now the Enhanced Edition for Xbox is also in the starting blocks.
The previously confirmed Xbox variant or Enhanced Edition of Oddworld: Soulstorm initially had no specific release date, but that has now changed. In a press release, Microids and Oddworld Inhabitants have announced that the revamped version of the action adventure game will be available for Xbox Series X / S and Xbox One from November 30, 2021.
Incidentally, PlayStation players don’t have to worry, because they too can benefit from the optimizations as part of the Enhanced Edition. For the PS5 and PS4 there will be a free upgrade to this better game version at the same time.
What is going on in the Enhanced Edition? The makers promise “dramatically improved gameplay mechanics and motion codes, audio balance improvements, seven additional months of fine-tuning, improved Slig and Follower AI (smarter and more responsive) as well as all previously released updates and brand new content”.
The latter is a new, separately accessible challenge mode in the game that can be accessed via the main menu as soon as you have finished the main game. Xbox players will also get a new game mode called “Vykkers Labs,” inspired by classic 2.5D gameplay from earlier parts of the franchise. The fewer in-game deaths you die in this mode, the higher up you will find in the ranking. The eponymous Vykkers Labs is an on-the-fly laboratory in which pharmaceutical tests are carried out on animals.
On the PlayStation, however, you get the “Toby’s Escape” mode, which also pays homage to earlier Oddworld games. Here you can look forward to 10 short levels to be mastered.
