Riot Games and Netflix have confirmed that Arcane gets a second season. After the explosive ending of season one, there are still plenty of potential episodes around the towns of Piltover and Zaun. But one of the biggest advantages of the League of Legends Setting is how extensive it is. Piltover and Zaun are just part of a larger world, and there could already be clues as to where the show could be headed next.
Piltover’s secret police
While Caitlyn is advocating the law Arcane, League of Legends Fans know that there is a higher authority that we have yet to see. Camille, a champion from league, is a Hextech-reinforced elite agent of the higher class. It used the technology in which we see it evolve Arcane essentially becoming a murder cyborg who has been crossed with a secret agent. The 2019 film Awaken shows Camille ransacking a theater with the Piltover Police, and it is possible Arcane could investigate further.
Noxus
Arcane introduces a bit of Noxus, mostly through Mel’s mother, suggesting the Empire might have a bigger presence in the future. For non-connoisseurs League of Legends Lore, Noxus is a major threat; it is a performance society based on the model of the Roman Empire. There is an additional level of intrigue; Noxus is based on dark magic and occult groups manipulate the nation’s politics behind the scenes.
A conflict with Noxus is pretty easy to set up; The nation is portrayed as relentlessly expanding and is leading campaigns across Runeterra to expand its borders. Piltover would be a tempting destination with its technology and wealth.
Shurima
Shurima is a long-forgotten realm that has been engulfed in the sands of the desert. This is a place where a giant golden disk of the sun once hovered over civilization, and this disk would elevate the emperor’s chosen soldiers to unstoppable, animal-headed god-warriors. The empire’s domestic politics eventually turned sour, and a sun disk ritual resulted in the complete end of Shurima.
So what’s the link to Arcane? Well, the Hextech crystals that Jayce and Viktor are using to start an industrial revolution come from a sentient race known as the Bracken in Shurima. It seems likely that there will be some backlash as highly intelligent and empathetic creatures are harvested to make cool gadgets Arcane‘s second season. There is also some synergy with Noxus as they expanded into Shurima during their conquests.
Ixtal
Ixtal is a relatively new region for League of Legends Lore. The nation was once part of the Shuriman Empire, but when Shurima failed, Ixtal simply isolated himself behind wild magic. Now Piltover’s need for resources is pushing the boundaries of this land, and its defenders are known for a sophisticated understanding of elemental magic.
We won’t see Arcane Season 2 in 2022, but there are still plenty left league for fans who want more to discover. The recently released role-playing game Ruined King: A League of Legends Story focuses on the pirate town of Bilgewasser and the haunted Shadow Isles and is a good place to learn more about Runeterra.
