The 2021 The Game Awards have left us with plenty of headlines and big announcements, like the first gameplay of Hellblade II. However, we also had major absences. One of the biggest and one that entered the majority of pools was the presence of NetherRealm and the official presentation of their new work. Something that ultimately didn’t happen and, according to Ed Boon’s latest statements, won’t happen for some time.
A title of which we only know its development, official now, but not if it is the expected Mortal Kombat 12, Injustice 3 or something completely new.
NetherRealm is not ready to show us its new title … However
Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat co-creator and one of the studio’s authorized voices, recently spoke about it all, responding on Twitter to a user explaining why his new game ultimately didn’t make it to TGA. In their explanation, they claim that they are not yet ready to reveal what they are up to, in which there are still many variables that they do not intend to reveal. Of course, he hasn’t released a pledge on the game they’re developing, something logical, and the mystery is being kept for the official announcement. An announcement that can still take us to see.
I really appreciate the enthusiasm for our next game and I would like us to be ready to announce it. But we are not yet. Many more variables involved than we are permitted to disclose.

Whether it’s Mortal Kombat 12 or Injustice 3 ultimately, what is certain is that we will be facing one of the best fighting titles in history and the first to land on the next generation of consoles.
