It was all the way back in 2015, which I first wrote about a game called Booty for the gods, an indie tribute to Shadow of the colossus. Six years later, with a name change on the way, the game is now out.

This is what it looked like then:

As you can see, it wasn’t inspired by that much Shadow of the colossus as it was an attempt by some fans to be simple Make your own version of this, up to and including using the line “You must use the colossal dangers you face” in the announcement.

Two years later and after a successful Kickstarter campaign the developers were forced to change the name of the game after the Bethesda publishers objected to the use of the word “Prey” in the title because they also had a game called “Prey” that was released that same year. It was an absurd, if necessary, step – you have to legally defend your trademarked terms or you risk losing them – but without the resources to fight back, No Matter’s developers struck a compromise by adding the logo of the game but would be forced to spell it out Pray for the gods every time it was written down.

It then went away for a year or two and reappeared with a buggy Early Access build that didn’t go down well, then disappeared until I forgot everything. So it was nice news to wake up today to see that the game is done and done and is now available not only on PC but also on PS5, PS4 and Xbox One.

This is what the game will look like in 2021, or at least on a PlayStation 5. It’s a lot bluer, but the additional ambient effects and lighting tricks look nicer such as.
