Epic Games surprised the video game world with the release of The Matrix Awakens, a stunning tech demo that is as playable as it is free. As this demo is only available on PS5 and Xbox Series X | S is offered, various questions quickly arose. And Epic Games answered some of them.
Are there any differences between the PS5 and Xbox Series X | S versions of Matrix awakens ? Could there have been a Switch version of the technical demo? Will the Matrix Awakens demo ever appear on PC? Here are some questions that Epic Games asked. were asked Axios.
In fact, journalist Stephen Totilo recently had the chance to speak to Epic Games technical director Kim Libreri. Regarding possible differences between the PS5 and Xbox Series X | S versions of The Matrix Awakens replied to Kim Libreri:
There are some things that are better on one console than the other. But overall it’s pretty much the same experience.
Regarding the Xbox Series S version, Kim Libreri explains that things were a little more complicated. But in his opinion the demo works fine on the latter:
It was a little scary to put things on the S series. But to be fair to Microsoft, it’s a pretty good experience with the S. This runs at a lower resolution, of course, and the guys at Digital Foundry will see that there are a few other tradeoffs as well.
Matrix Awakens, yes, but on Switch?
While the answer may seem obvious, Axios couldn’t help but mention the Switch. Can Matrix Awakens run on Nintendo Switch? According to Kim Libreri, this is currently not possible:
No … but at some point we need to figure out how to create assets with this realism that could work on Switch. But we have to go step by step.
Regarding the possibility of a PC release, the technical director of Epic is with a “we will see“He explains that releasing Matrix Awakens on PC would require a lot of testing of the various configurations available on that platform, so it would seem that interested PC gamers shouldn’t be holding their breath.
Matrix Awakens level games possible?
An impressive tech demo like Matrix Awakens leaves one wondering if such rendering could be achieved on real games. Kim Libreri says: ” absolutely convinced“That games on PS5 and Xbox Series X | S will achieve such a level of graphic realism.
However, he admits that compromises have to be made to achieve a frame rate above the 30 fps of the demo. That being said, it also makes it clear that some things about the demo are beyond what the developers really need. For example, he cites that the demo constantly simulates the whole city. Including areas that the player cannot see. The developers of a normal game could use these resources differently.
Players never forget anything. Once that generation is over, they will be sure to check out if any games have managed to compete visually with the Matrix Awakens.
