The Minecraft operation #PlantForLife was launched last September by Xbox, Minecraft and the Yves Rocher Foundation and aimed to educate gamers about protecting the environment. To this end, the gaming community has been invited to plant 100,000 virtual trees on a dedicated Minecraft server, all before the December 15th deadline. If that goal were achieved, the Yves Rocher Foundation would commit to planting that many trees around the world. Well, it’s done since the 100,000th Pixelated Tree was planted on Saturday, December 11th.
To overcome this challenge, the players spent a total of almost 14,000 hours on the server. Thanks to this action, several countries can benefit from reforestation, starting with France. It is the Yves Rocher Foundation and its partner Afac-Agroforesteries who will make this mission a reality in our area. They have planted 5 million trees for 12 years.
The second country to benefit from this operation is Ethiopia. Reforestation plays a particularly important role in this region, which is regularly affected by droughts and famine. Trees make soils more fertile and thus contribute to strengthening food security. This task is carried out by the NGO Green Ethiopia, which has already planted more than 46 million trees.
Ecuador will also benefit from this initiative. The latter is home to what is considered to be the lungs of our planet: the Amazon. It is the Atayak Association that aims to build a real border of flowering trees and fruit trees to protect the Kichwa from the exploitation of their land.
Thanks to the Yves Rocher Foundation and its partners, operations can start from the next 2022-2023 planting season. Well done and thank you to the players who took the time to get involved in this noble cause. More than ever, “if everyone plays, everyone wins”.
