Selected Google users can currently test a Google Maps function that could simplify route planning. And all you need to do is press a button.
- Google is testing a new function for Maps.
- This allows targets to be “docked” to the lower side of the screen.
- So far, the feature is only available for a select few users and on the desktop.
For many travelers, Google Maps is the first stop when planning. However, if you wanted to research more than one target at the same time, you previously had to open several tabs or windows. That can quickly become confusing. Google is currently working on a new feature that can make travel planning much easier.
As AndroidPolice reported, some Google users could see a new button in Google Maps. This is shown directly under the coordinate or the name of the place if you have selected a point on the map.
New dock at the bottom of the screen
If you click on it, a bar appears at the bottom of the map. If you have saved several locations here, you can use it to switch between the locations on the map. Practical, for example when you want to go sightseeing or plan several stopovers on a route.
So far it is not known whether the functionality will go further and whether it can be combined with Google’s plans for better navigation. An export function or automatic route planning that represents the fastest or most environmentally friendly route between the points would be conceivable.
The new function has so far only been seen for the desktop version of Google Maps. It is currently unknown whether a mobile version is being planned, what it could look like and whether the function will be further developed beyond the test phase. Google has not yet commented on this function.
